Citizens appoint new Manager

Replacing Adam Fisher

Welwyn Garden City FC are delighted to announce the appointment of Dean Barker as their new manager in succession to Adam Fisher, who resigned in midweek.

Barker, formerly manager of Northwood FC in the Bostik League Div 1 South Central and Spartan South Midlands League Cockfosters, has been appointed until the end of the season.

He played with great distinction for Cockfosters becoming their record goalscorer with 50 goals in season 2008-09 before going on to manage the club to eighth and third-placed finishes in the SSML which is the best in the club's history.

He then joined Wingate & Finchley of the Bostik Premier as first team coach/under 23 manager, leading the under 23’s to several trophy successes as well as achieving an eighth-placed finish - also the best in the club's history.

Next port of call was Northwood, who he had in seventh place in the table before leaving the club in October last year.

Previous Statement
WELWYN Garden City FC have forced manager Adam Fisher to resign after concerns over his management of the club's football budget.

The club have revealed that their manager of six seasons has seriously overspent his allocated budget over the first half of the club's inaugural season in Southern League.

Despite repeated warnings to him in recent months, the spending hasn't been curtailed and the club felt

that they had no option but to seek his resignation at a recent meeting.

Despite the overspend. the club's form has dipped alarmingly during December and Fisher's side have only picked up two points out of a possible 18 to drop to 14th in the table, despite a promising start.

Club chairman Ollie Croft said: 'We could not allow this to go on, otherwise the club would be in serious financial difficulties.

Adam has done very well for the club on the field in his time here, but at too high a price.

We know you need a competitive budget to complete in the Southern League football, but you don't need to be frivolous with money'.

Fisher, who has won two promotions in his half-dozen seasons at the BP Mitchell, leaves his post immediately.
