Biggleswade Town moved to within a point of third-placed AFC Rushden & Diamonds in the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division Central on Tuesday night after a 2-0 Langford Road win over a now sixth-placed Needham Market.
However, although Alvechurch moved into the top five, they had to be content with one point from their trip to lowly Halesowen Town in the evening`s only other game.
Neither side had any clear-cut chances in the opening 45 minutes.
But just 6 minutes into the second period, the Waders broke the deadlock when, from a corner, Tom Smith pulled the ball back for Bradley Bell to score.
And the home side put the game to bed 7 minutes from time when another corner saw Joe White`s initial effort blocked and Bell nipped into net his second of the game.
At The Grove, an almost unrecognisable Halesowen Town side took the field in front of 406 against Alvechurch after new boss Rob Smith had added several new faces to his squad in the past 24 hours.
And surprisingly, it was the hosts who took the lead after just 10 minutes when Lewis Reilly twisted and turned before slotting home.
Despite that good start, perhaps understandably, it took time for the Yeltz to get any rhythm with so many new faces.
But as the game progressed, although `Church largely dominated the play, some good defending and outstanding goalkeeping by Kieran Boucher kept the lead intact.
This is until a minute from time when Josh March popped up to earn the visitors a share of the spoils.
