Taunton Town moved seven points clear at the top of the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division South table after a hard-earned 2-1 home win over Beaconsfield Town at the Viridor Stadium on Wednesday night.
In front of a crowd of 410 – the Peacocks` second lowest of the season on an admittedly bitterly cold night – the home side dominated the opening half and then had to defend after the interval as their play-off chasing visitors looked to get back into the game.
Taunton, who are still unbeaten at home in the league this season to date, went ahead in the 20th minute when Rocky Neal latched onto a pass by Lewis Hall to score.
Neal doubled his tally in the 39th minute, scoring with a long-range effort.
Beaconsfield were fortunate to be only 2-0 down at half-time but hit back with a goal by Charlie Lossaso a minute after the restart.
And the Rams threatened to turn the match around, but Taunton's defence held firm.
